Do you recall the scene from the movie Caddyshack (funny movie) when Ty Webb, played by Chevy Chase, randomly putts in several golfs balls in a Zen-like fashion? Watch the YouTube video below. (It takes a second or two for the audio to come on.)
So now you know what I mean by “Putt Like Ty Webb.” Is this possible?
After some thought, I came up with a new idea. Attach my Alpha Performance Disk directly to the shaft of a putter. Refer to my post AlphaWAVE Relaxation / Performance Improvement Disk for details on the disk, what it does and how it works.
Here’s my idea sketch:

I’ll design a simple experiment to be executed at the local golf course putting green. I’ll be the intervention group (the one who uses the disk), and a friend the control group. Note that neither of us actually play golf. I happen to have an old putter that a friend gave to me.
I just want to see if I can sink a putt 95% of the time using the disk. Nothing fancy like Ty did in Chaddyshack, just sink the putt. We’ll notate all the data at the course, and use this neat Excel spreadsheet that performs the statistical calculations from Rik Higham (via the web). Really could have used this in college – so cool! I’ll change the headings for our use.

To make the disk holder, I began with a slice of leftover 4″ ABS pipe, which I used for my eBike battery holder eBike Build.

I then cut two small pieces and glued them to the inner center of the ring. These will support the Alpha disk.


I attached the disk to the ring with double-sided sticky tape.

I purchased some clip-on spring brackets and attached one to the ABS ring with a bolt and nut.

Here’s the disk clipped to the putter. It looks pretty strange (like a fried egg), but hey who cares if it works. I am sure I will get a lot of questions at the golf course. Maybe I can sell a few, or take breakfast orders!

Perhaps this invention will release my inner Tiger… Tiger Woods that is!
